Toronto Metropolitan Region

This view of the Toronto metropolitan region is taken from a vantage point just above Kingston, looking west towards London. Some viewers may recognize the "Southern Ontario Elephant"--its trunk pointing towards Detroit and its tail extending to Tobermory. This image appeared on the front cover of the Ontario Planning Journal, Jan/Feb 2010.

The software used to create Toronto Metropolitan Region: The Big Picture allows us to produce alternative views. The 'elephant view' highlights the spine of the Oak Ridges Moraine and Niagara Escarpment particularly well. The Neptis Foundation, in collaboration with As the Crow Flies cARTography and the Cartography Office in the Department of Geography at the University of Toronto, created these unique views to help residents and policy makers visualize and better understand connections in the region.

The 16 x 24 inch, laminated poster is available for $15.00 (plus shipping and handling charges). Please contact publications (at) neptis (dot) org for more details.
